Styling Distance Course

Do you love flipping through fashion magazines, reading fashion blogs and adding to your Pinterest boards? Are you forever trawling social media and following influencers and what they are wearing? Do you enjoy selecting garments out for friends and family to enhance their look? If you answered yes to these then this course is right for you!

Fashion Styling is now a popularised and fast emerging career path within the Australian and global fashion industry. A Fashion Stylist typically sources and organises outfits and accessories for a diversity of clients. However, there is much more to a career in Fashion Styling than being able to put together an outfit.

Stylists require a wide range of contemporary skills including strong organisational, communication and networking skills, have a creative flair and eye for colour, design and silhouettes and must stay up to date with the current fashion trends. Fashion Stylists generally work freelance, although Stylists now are being employed in house by fashion labels, shopping centres, retail stores, publishing companies, model and advertising agencies and event management companies, just to name a few.

The course is broken up into 8 different tutorials. Our students complete one tutorial at a time and each tutorial will be focused on a different area of fashion styling and aims to build your terminology, styling and industry knowledge. The correspondence course will teach you core components and knowledge you will need to be a successful stylist and effectively educate and improve your client’s look. This includes understanding body shapes, colouring and figure analysis. You will learn the importance of trend forecasting and how to execute this to keep commercial clients at the forefront of fashion trends. You will learn the history of fashion in the 20th century and understand how fashion cycles evolve or return. You will develop a keen eye for the elements of style and be confident selecting garments, fabrics and styles for your clients or models. You will learn what a stylist needs to take to each photo-shoot and what areas of the industry are in high growth.
