Would you like to achieve a Diploma qualification in make-up but are only able to study part time? Has working as a make-up artist been a dream of yours? Then the Diploma of Screen and Media qualification is the course for you!

If you are able to study full time (3 days per week), then please take a look at our full time Diploma of Screen and Media (Specialist Make-Up Services).

Studying part time one day per week over one year & 8 months, you will cover the same exciting content as in the full time course. This course is suitable for students in High School who wish to complete the Diploma to obtain points towards their Queensland Certificate of Education.

The Diploma of Screen and Media is designed to prepare students to work as a professional make-up artist and hair stylist for fashion, bridal, retail and special effects. Students will develop a portfolio of work which will include day, evening, bridal and fashion make-up as well as casualty effects, character creation, bald caps and hair application.

During the course students will complete professional photoshoots, of which they will receive prints to include in their portfolio.

Students will be passed on opportunities to do make-up for fashion parades, events, photoshoots and even films during the year. Students will have the opportunity to work with our fashion, photography and styling students and also perform make-up for guest clients of all ages throughout the course.

Students will have the option to sit the ITEC international examination for the Diploma of Fashion, Theatre and Media Make-up at the end of the course. For more information on ITEC visit http://www.itecworld.co.uk

Qualification & Units of Competency

Course Code: CUA51015

Students who successfully complete the course will receive the nationally recognised Diploma of Screen and Media (CUA51015) qualification. This course is accredited under the Australian Qualifications Training Framework.

Beware of other styling courses that state that they provide students with a Diploma, but are not actually giving a nationally recognised qualification. You can check if a course and training provider is accredited by doing a search on the Training.gov.au website: www.training.gov.au

Upon completion of the Diploma of Screen and Media students will have learnt a variety of skills that enhance their level of employability within the industry. You will have the skills to work in a range of positions including;

  • Freelance make-up artist
  • Film and TV artist
  • SFX artist
  • Prosthetic artist
  • Bridal make-up and hair artist
  • Editorial make-up and hair artist
  • Hair stylist
  • Airbrush artist
  • Face/body painter

RPL assessed on a case by case basis, so it is only available on application. Students will be charged $200 per unit of competency.

Course Duration:

The course runs on Fridays over 2 years, 9am - 4:30pm

there are no classes on Friday 1st September for the Gold Coast Show holiday

Course Fees

VET Student Loans

From the 1st of January 2017 a new government student loan scheme became available to students enrolling into eligible courses at approved providers.

VET Student Loans are available for students who meet the eligibility requirements to assist with payment of the course fees. Students who take out a VET Student Loan will have a HELP debt which is due to the Commonwealth until it is repaid.

Full Course Cost (Payment Plan): $14,000.00

  • Balance paid in weekly direct debit instalments (with integraPAY) over course duration: $13,000.00

Additional Costs/Required Equipment:

  • Students will be required to source outside models throughout the duration of the course - models may be needed for consecutive weeks on occasion.
  • Students will be required to have access to a laptop computer with Office capabilities.
  • Students will be required to have access to a digital camera.
  • Students will be required to create full head to toe characters - students may choose to purchase costuming and props.
  • Students will be required to print images and written work for their portfolio submissions.
  • Make-Up kit required.
  • Students will be required to work on each other

LAPTOP / NOTEBOOK REQUIREMENT:

Students will be required to have a laptop computer with a wireless network connection. The following specifications are recommended:

  • A Wireless Laptop (PC or MAC)
  • Minimum 8Gb RAM (Preferrably 16GB RAM)
  • 2Ghz or faster processor
  • Web Browser (e.g. Google Chrome, Safari, Firefox or Internet Explorer)
  • Anti Virus Software.
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader (free online)
  • For editing work it is recommended you have a Mouse
  • Microsoft Office 2007 or better with Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Access.*
    If using a Mac -> Pages, Numbers and Keynote can be used

Financial Assistance

Eligible students may be able to apply to Centrelink for either Youth Allowance (for full-time students aged 16 to 24) or Austudy (for full-time students aged 25 years or over). For more information visit the Centrelink website.

Domestic Students Only

Application and Enrolment Process:

  1. Phone the Gold Coast (07) 55 938 335 OR Brisbane (07) 38 541 395 campus to arrange your interview OR fill out the online Application Form and arrange a phone interview if you cannot come into either campus.
  2. Attend your interview or complete the phone interview.
  3. You will recieve your enrolment paperwork and the student handbook at the interview and information on the required evidence you will have to supply to support your application.
  4. After reading the student handbook and enrolment forms, if you wish to enrol you must submit the enrolment form along with any requested evidence (original or certified copies of originals).Our administration staff will check the completed enrolment form and evidence you supplied to demonstrate your suitability for the course. We may have to ask you further information or discuss your options if you don't meet the suitability requirements for the course. If you do meet the suitability requirements for the course, we will send you a Confirmation of Enrolment, along with payment plan forms.
  5. You will receive your first invoice notice no more than one calendar month before the start of study and at least two weeks before the first census date.
